December

December has been a short yet crazy month with the holiday approaching.   We have busy working on finishing and sending our projects home before the break.

Kindergarten

This month kindergarten completed their mouse paint pictures.  We cut out ovals, semi-circles, or circles for the bodies of the mice.  We placed them in a circle to make the color wheel. Next after the mice we glued down we started to add in all the things that could help make it look like a mouse: hands and feet, nose and whiskers, ears and eyes and last but not least a tail.

We used the rest of the month to fit in a quick Christmas project.  Using simples shapes: squares, rectangles, triangles to create a tree with present underneath. Later if there was extra time bows, ornaments, and other details were added.

1st grade

This month we finished our shooting stars!

Next we started a winter landscape.  We reviewed warm and cool color families.  Everyone used each family once. One family for the trees and the other for the sky. We used a simple trick with coffee filters and Mr. Sketch markers (watercolor markers) to made the colors bleed when sprayed with water. While those dried we started our landscapes, starting with our horizon line to separate our sky and ground (which stayed white with snow). The skies were painted with watercolor paints.  Once dry the trees were cut apart after we folded them in half 3xs. The folds were used as guides to cut along. They were glued on to our sky papers making sure they touched grounded and we didn't have 'floating' trees.  With everything glued on details were added in with marker and snow with silver permanent marker. The results are truly a glimpse into their imagination!

2nd grade

This month we had lots of fun getting ready for winter to arrive. What more winters than snowflakes.  Students designed every snowflake to be different in some way. Simple lines and shapes make up the snowflakes.  Students practiced using up the space on their paper. Once satisfied with their snowflakes, they were traced over with black permanent marker.  Watercolor markers added color to the snowflakes along with silver permanent marker for some extra pizzazz.
